Widget bucks – review after joining for a month

Posted by samson on Oct 30, 2007 in Make money online

Widget bucks, a program that allow bloggers to post graphical advertisements on their web page to earn some extra money. It functions on a Pay per click system, so you can have as many readers on your site as your servers can handle, if no one click on the ad, it is earning you nothing. I first heard about Widget Bucks in the first week of October. Since they were promising a 25 dollar sign on bonus, I just join them for the fun of it, who knows, maybe I’ll make some money off them.

After using them for nearly a month, I am not sure if its the attractive graphic ads or the low priced merchandise on their ads, some of my readers started clicking their ads. Initially their pay per click rate is defaulted to 0.28 cents per click and would be marked in Red. After a few days, it would turn black and the number would change. In Widget Buck’s terms, they call it finalized. The black numbers are what I am being paid.

After joining them for a month, I’ve seen several pretty amazing PPC rate, my current highest is around 64 cents, and the lowest is at 18 cents. It seems to be my current most profitable source so far, even better then GoogleAds.

The special is still on, if you want in, you’ll still get that 25 dollars bonus if you following this link to join them.

Evil = Money x Money, get a girl and you’ll be rich!

Posted by samson on Oct 16, 2007 in Make money online

Have you ever heard of the saying, Money is the root of all evil? I used to ignore this line, because Money isn’t the only root. However, after reading several pages on John Chow’s website, Market Matatdor and Angel’s website. This line came back in focus.

It started out as a joke around my high school days, it was our introduction class to mathematical proves. A friend of mine found the following prove on the old Internet, the BBS systems.

Proof Girls are evil

Let Money = Evil^(1/2) …(1) (Money is the root of all Evil)
Let Time = Money …(2) (Time is Money)
Let Girls = Time x Money …(3) (Girls requires time and money)
Then, we get
Time = Evil^(1/2) …(Sub 1 with 2) …(4)
Girls = Evil^(1/2) x Evil^(1/2) …(Sub 3 with 2, 4) …(5)
Therefore Girls = Evil (5, definition of ^)

At the time, I was simply smiling, because it is funny, but it didn’t really make much sense. Because the equal sign is a bidirectional sign, so Money is root of all evil must also mean root of all evil is money. Yet that is not the case with life. If that last sentence lost you, don’t worry, its the curse of a mathematic student, me, just continue on and ignore that line. This fact stayed true until I was proven wrong once again by John Chow.

As an Internet surfer since the early 90s, I am immunized to most Internet marketing strategy. It is not like I intentionally skip it, I simply grew to ignore them. However, JohnChow’s evil marketing strategies did get my attention. It wasn’t the Ad Words that he used, nor is it the colors or pictures, it is the articles that caught my attention. I especially liked the evil marketing scheme page on his site. He used humor to sell his ideas across, and simply talks the reader into believing they can earn as much money as he does.

So, yes, Money is the root of all evil, and root of all evil will bring you money. As we all know John just got himself a girl, we now know where his money came from eh?

Copping with Writer’s block

Posted by samson on Oct 15, 2007 in Make money online

To create a successful blog or website, everyone knows that great content is a requirement. This mean the owner’s writing ability and their ideas are very important. Once a person starts blogging or writing articles on his or her website, they would usually start off with lots of interesting ideas. Once some of those ideas, if not all, are written and posted, the source of those ideas would start to act like a dying well. As the well dries up, the author is slowly experiencing what is known as Writer’s block.

As a Blogger, writer’s block is the worst thing that could happen. Yet, it is a standard part of any writer’s life. If you experienced writer’s block, it would become progressively difficult to write about anything. Eventually, you might simply give up writing. Personally, I attain this level of blockage several times per week. My solution is to rediscover my muse via other means. When I am lost on my blogging path, I would turn to several places online for ideas. First and foremost, Wikipedia. Wikipedia is the world’s free encyclopedia maintained by everyone online. This means you can contribute to this encyclopedia, any errors are removed immediately if found by other users on the Internet. Don’t underestimate the people online, if you were to falsify an entry, it may take a maximum of several seconds after posting for your entry to be removed and IP address banned from editing. Wikipedia is one of my muse for several articles on this site. On this list are the articles on Melvin Franklin and Jean Chretien. Honestly, there are way more information on Wikipedia that anyone can imagine. You can locate history, facts, sometime even mathematical formula on this handy site.

A second source I visit is YouTube. If you read around my site, some of my post actually contain videos linked from YouTube. Sometime I might find a funny video on YouTube or similar sites and just want to share it with the world. That’s one post!

Lastly, visiting your neighbor’s blogs. I maintain an active list of worthwhile blogs on my blogroll. This is actually more for my personal benefit then for my readers, otherwise known as YOU. My blogroll is what I suggest you to read, simply because I find it the site interesting enough for a revisit. So, I visit them myself on a weekly basis to ensure they still deserve a place on my blogroll.

There are always some offline sources. For example, my favorite is the box in my living room known as Television. Browsing for interesting shows or seeing some guy paddling a boat in a sea of cow excretion is really interesting and could easily reignite my ideas or recall my personal muse.

Technorati – Let’s see why it is important

Posted by samson on Oct 10, 2007 in Make money online

I have been reading mean posts on the internet, a lot of them seems to point back to technorati. At first, I was just saying ‘So, I still have more faith in Google then anything else’. But then I’d miss out what technorati is.

So I am planning to join Technorati and see how it works, what kind of benefits I can gain from it.

This is my Technorati Profile.

Agloco Join or no join?

Posted by samson on Oct 6, 2007 in Make money online

After reading on several websites, my initial thrust of joining Agloco has collapsed.

One of the many factors was John Chow’s description and Angel’s point of view of Agloco. This brings back memories from when Alladvantage was still around.

I remember back in those days, I did get a few cheques from them, simply for surfing the web. A friend of mine talked me into joining alladvantage and used him as the referrer. To a high schooler, 50 or so USD for two to three months would be quite a lot, especially when all I did was turn the AllAdvantage bar on and browse around, or chat on IRC. Back then, Microsoft Comic Chat was still active so it was pretty fun, but dealt a great blow to my system resources. For those of you who have no idea what MS Comic Chat is, it is an IRC client, with users’s words typed into dialog bubble of a user specified comic character. Here is a wiki page on it.

But then I stopped after half a year. It seems the electricity bill that I was using to browse just for the view bar was actually costing me more then the money coming in. Since I usually can’t get people to join affiliate programs like these I was stuck to making all the hours on my own.

So, after remembering this experience, I’d rather spend more time building up this website rather then installing a tool bar and hope for the little money that some big company can spare easily.

An Extra note, I doubt that view bar is designed for Linux anyways. :)
