Well, I am not sure if anyone visited FileHaven lately. But I have added a Search section to the otherwise old style download screen.

Now, if you want to look for something, it can simply be found by typing in the search bar, and if any were found, it would be displayed.

So, that one off of my upgrade list, which I had in writing.

The following are some of the other upgrades on my list.

The goal for fileHaven is to make life easier for most of the on line community.

Where are them Snow Plows II, Case of the Stuck fire Truck

Posted by samson on Feb 2, 2008 in Random Thoughts

Well, following up to my last post, Snow Plows still haven’t visited my front door. Oops, make that a correction, one just arrived. Too bad the fire truck already freed itself and returned to the station  awhile ago.

This morning, at 6:30ish, I woke up to clear my driveway of more snow, just like any other normal day after a heavy snowing night. To my surprise a Toronto Fire Truck was struggling at a nearby turn. The fire fighters have been trying to free their ride for quite sometime, as I finish shoveling my drive way, I walked over to see if I could offer some assistance. They have enough of almost everything needed to request themselves. The only thing missing was a clear, plowed, salted road. This missing ingredient in this case might have been a small dent in the fire department’s payroll. What if there was a house at the end of that street on fire? What if it wasn’t a fire truck, but an ambulance and one of my neighbor just had a stroke and requires immediate medical attention?

Its been over 24 hours since it started snowing yesterday, why are the streets still packed with unplowed, unsalted snow?

Where are them Snow Plows??

Posted by samson on Feb 2, 2008 in Random Thoughts

Today was a fun day for Toronto. At least 20 cm of Snow fell on the City in a few hours. Another time, in the ‘LONG’ history of the Weather Network, the out come are close to predictions. Almost all Television stations which can afford their own weather forecast specialist predicted somewhere between 20 to 25 cm of snow for good old T.O.. The government contracted snow clearing companies have acknowledged this fact yesterday by appearing on some evening News stating that they are ready for this snow storm.

Yet,  almost all roads were not plow this morning, hell they weren’t even salted. Where are the snow plows? Rush hour is between 5:30 am to 9:00am, clearing the roads after 9:00am wouldn’t reduce accidents during rush hour! Didn’t the plow guys just said they were ready? If they knew a storm is coming, and were all prep and ready, why weren’t they doing what they were paid to do?
Maybe if the streets were clear this morning, lots of accidents could have been prevented. It is already too late for the victims of those accidents.

African focused school, more worms in cans?

Posted by samson on Jan 31, 2008 in Random Thoughts

Today, the Toronto district school board announced that in the upcoming year, a new school with a special curriculum will be in action. It is an African-focused school where officials claim would increase African teens to stay in school.

Personally, I think that’s completely bull shit. Sorry for the inappropriate words, but if I weren’t controlling myself, that’d be a handful of cursing words compressed into one. Separating by color or ethnic background is not going to help, we have seen that. Yes, it might solve some problem in the short term, maybe, just maybe the students would stay in school longer. However, that doesn’t advertise the traditional Canadian advertisement of ‘Multiculturalism’! In fact, this is so bad that it comes close to racial discrimination!

I have always believed in multiculturalism. I have this belief not because I was taught it exists by my elementary school teachers, It was because I have personally experienced it! In my high school, there was no formulas used to calculated how many student of a certain ethnic background must be in the same class, nor were there limitations to which ethnic background the course material must stay within. It was just school, knowledge was taught. It doesn’t matter if you were African, Chinese, Desi or White! We were classmate, schoolmates, learn to cope with each other and learn each other’s culture!

Of course in a math class, you would expect the teachers to teach math, and in a religion class, teaches religion. However, the learning of life has no such limits we call books, what might be rivals today might be best buddies tomorrow. Why must we bring in our ethnic stereotypes and our million tones of racial hate into the classroom and sour the future?

For the record, I have friends from all continent of this planet. And I also have friends in most famous religion. I’ve learn to adapt to their culture, and realized that it was my naiveness that stirred up some past problems with some on their parts.

These are my views, what’s yours?

Farewell to Power Politics

Posted by samson on Jan 10, 2008 in Random Thoughts

This is a sad week for most Canadians, especially those of Chinese ethnicity. A radio call-in show called ‘Power Politics’ is being pulled off the air waves. Reasons are yet unclear, all Simon Li, the host of Power Politics said was ‘If I am not allowed to have my freedom of expression, then this would no longer be Power Politics!’.

Power Politics is recorded in Cantonese, and its primary audience base is the Cantonese Speaking Canadians from the Greater Toronto Area. Some of its well known coverage includes the ‘Comfort women act’, where women in Asia was abducted by the Japanese Army during the second World War and forced to comfort their captors. The Canadian Government, under constant coverage from Power Politics, the audience’s plea for help to their parliament representative and the sense of right from wrong that exists in our government’s conscience have passed the Act. This Act that acknowledges the crimes the Japanese Army have committed against Women during WWII, next step is to undo the alterations the Japanese extreme conservatives have done to their history books. Another well known coverage would be the Racial discrimination based attacks against Asian fishing hobbyist. Where tires are cut, people are pushed into lakes, and other forms of expression which could be consider hate crime were conducted on those that just wanted to torture fish for sport.

One of the most attractive part of Power Politics is that in one hour and thirty Minuets, it is able to lead the politically idle Chinese community into the heat that is local politics. Chinese has never been a political active race, atleast not for the last 30 years or so. Those from Hong Kong knew only to follow or complain under the British rule, those from main-land China knew only to agree to the communistic rule, and those from Taiwan only knew that if they don’t over react, their opposition would not listen because their form of democracy is somewhat in between traditional Chinese beliefs and modern democratic believe. If a call-in show like Power Politics, local politicians can finally reach into the heart of a minority community. Then maybe, just maybe, we’ll have more Canadians of Chinese ethnic origins. These people can better the country by entering into the political race. Trust me, there are lots of people in the Chinese Canadian minority section that can be consider good leaders, it is just that their spark, the spark to better Canada, haven’t been lit yet. With this show gone for now, I fear it is difficult for these resources to be tap.

Before my introduction to Power Politics, I have absolutely no interest in Politics. Reason was simple, even with a bachelor’s degree I am but one. I can’t do much, nor would my voice ever be heard. Apparently, it isn’t. If I voice up, I might be able to make this world a better place. What else can I do then to start with the one in the mirror eh?

Good bye Power Politics, Simon Li and Dr. So. I hope to hear your voices again. Until then, the little spark that have lit up within me, the spark for love of politics and rightousness, would be allowed to grow. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll join you on a newer generation of Power Politics! Or maybe helping you distribute Podcast of your show, that’s the least I can really do :p
