Finally! Live Chinese TV over the Web

Posted by samson on May 19, 2009 in Web Attraction

As a software Developer, I’ve been wondering why on earth people have not attempted this yet. It doesn’t seems difficult to officially host a complete TV Channel off of the internet.

Finally, we have WOWTV here attempting this bold move, broadcasting on both Rogers network and the internet. Quite frankly, I am looking forward to suspending my Rogers network subscription if WOWTV turns out to be a great alternative.

Canadian comedy…

Posted by samson on Jul 12, 2008 in Life's little pleasures, Web Attraction

Honestly, I am not sure how many people would get this video. Of course if you are a Canadian, don’t bother wasting your time answering that question.

this is a clip from this hour have 22 min, and it does show some of the common thoughts Canadian have throughout the country.  Of course that’s not how I am, but I find it seriously hilarious.

Post-it on my wall!

Posted by samson on Oct 16, 2007 in Web Attraction

As I head for my desk looking forward to writing another article on pleasantlifestyle.com, I’ve noticed something on my monitor. A piece of yellow paper with the text ‘Mr. X called at 905-xxx-xxxx’ hangs off of the center of my screen. Apparently when I was focusing on the Stocks market and how much the U.S. housing slump is costing me, I missed a call and the person who took the call in my place recorded a message using post-it notes and sticked it on my monitor so I won’t miss it.

Post-it, Notes invented by Arthur Fry and is currently owned and manufactured by 3M is heavily used for such occasions. First marketed back in 1977, Post-it Notes has become something that almost every human have at least wrote one or received one. I personally use the writable notes for message relays and the non-writable ones as book marks.

Do you remember Melvin Franklin, member of The Temptations?

Posted by samson on Oct 12, 2007 in Web Attraction

Honestly, I ran out of ideas to write about. So, I was browsing the internet to see what might be special about October 12 and I found something interesting. Apparently today is the birthday of Melvin Franklin, who passed away back in 1995.

You might ask, who on earth is Melvin Franklin? To be frank, I don’t know him personally, nor did I knew him when he was still actively singing. All I know about him is via the hit group ‘The Temptations’. Still doesn’t ring a bell eh? It doesn’t surprise me. Actually I am way too young to know their songs too, but I have heard of them. You might have too! Try to think about some movies, the background music with some guys singing:

“What! can! make! me! feel! this! way!? My Girl! (My girl!*My Girl!**)”
*Echoed by two voice after initial My Girl!
** Echoed by two more higher pitched voice after second My Girl!

Yes, that’s the Temptations! (more information) a popular group since the 1960s, days of Motown.

So, I’ve decided to add a post to my blog, in memory of Melvin Franklin (more information). And I’ve also included some of the Temptation’s best songs (found on Youtube! :) ).

Just My Imagination

I just don’t seem to understand today’s generation. When I told my friends about all of these oldies that I know, they were staring at me like I was the hulk. Some singers, groups or songs should be passed on, simply because they are good. It is ridculous to consider a song not worthy to be listened to by the date that it was released.

Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, revive your old software for free!

Posted by samson on Oct 3, 2007 in Web Attraction

On a recent browse on the internet, especially the Microsoft’s web page, I’ve noticed a neat piece of software available free of charge. It is the Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. This program is one of the virtualization programs available today for Windows users to have an extra system inside their machine while still using their installed Windows. Virtual PC is an amazing piece of software because it allows for multi system co-existences within a single computer. How is that an advantage to me? You might ask, imagine a piece of software that you have been using happily for the last 10 to 15 years, let’s say good old Lotus 123 (for those of you who have no clue what Lotus 123 is, it is an accounting software). Suddenly your friends brought you a state-of-the-art laptop that is using Windows Vista you’re your birthday, because you have been using Lotus 123 on your 286 that cost you thousands of dollars at the time, you years of data written just of that software.Obviously you would try to migrate the software to your new laptop right? Or else you might have to redo the last 10 years of accounting books from scratch. During installation of your Lotus 123 program, it was complaining about missing dependencies and was looking for a MS-DOS 5.0 driver. At that point you are completely lost in the world of software techno-babble. Because you have no idea what the heck is going on, you took your laptop back for services and have their technicians install Lotus 123 for you. The technicians suggests, after reviewing your software, that you buy another accounting software and redo everything from scratch. If you do your own accounting books, at this point you will be like “I’d rather stick to my 286 then…”.But don’t give up yet, this is why this post exists. With Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 you can bring your old system INTO your new system. Sounds confusing eh? It isn’t really. What it means is taking the software portion of your old system and virtualizes it. Once virtualized, the software portion exists in a Virtual Machine. This machine is part of your main system, so you can run all your old programs on your main system without further alterations. What you need to do is create a Virtual Hard disk on your system using Virtual PC, and on that Virtual Hard Disk install your old Operating Systems. Then install all your old programs on top of this Operating System. And Viola! You took your old antique system and transferred it into your new system. Advantages:
Your Old System, let’s say a 286 was running at less then 33 MhZ. Your need system, if running at 1 GhZ, you just increased the speed of your software by almost 30 times.
Your old software are now virtualized, so in the future if you upgrade your system again, all you have to do is copy the vhd file over and your system will come with you.
Disadvantages:
You need to load up your laptop’s OS first before you can access your virtual System.
Works on Windows Xp Professional and Up, Windows Xp Home is not included.
If you corrupt your primary OS, both system dies with it. (So back up your Virtual system periodically)
So head over to get the Software right away!Get Microsoft Virtual PC 2007.
