Today’s businesses and Info Tech.

As a Software guy, I might be quoted as ‘bias’ towards this topic, but I completely agree with the author of granitepeaksys.com and the article posted as title ‘6 Reasons businesses Fail at IT‘.

I believe that Information Technology is one of the most important section of a modern business. Almost everything that business owners, managers, or accountants used to do on paper are now done on a computer. The loss of such technologies may cost a company thousands if not million, if a replacement of the broken technologies were not provided within a sufficient amount of time.

Out of the six reasons, the last one caught my eye extremely quickly. It is asking ‘Whom to we blame if an IT initiative fails?’. Such a question shouldn’t be coming from any decent low level managers, let alone coming from a top manager or a middle manager. One of the major requirement to be a successful leader is the ability to turn situations where it involves the usual ‘who do we blame’ into a ‘how can we fix this’ situation. The ability to consider blame is not only a bad leadership skill, it is also a very depressing human relationship skill. If you are constantly looking for excuses to blame other people for anything, you’ll most likely be blaming your spouse for having the wrong gender offspring, for making too little/too much, for cooking/not cooking, for making the wrong/right financial decision, for for breathing…etc

Yet, you’ll be standing on the same spot blaming more people.

Are you going to blame me for writing this article? Let me shove it in your face, you clicked on a link using YOUR computer. You were requesting to view my article, not the other way around!

Now, stop blaming people and get some action done! (clean the kitchen, mob the floor, make some kids, force the kids to make some grand kids…etc..)
